A Heartfelt Guide to Reading with Intention Using Insight & Wisdom Mapping
How many times have we purchased books that we either never read, collect dust, or forget about? Whether we purchased the new releases or at a discounted price, we spent our hard earned money to enjoy a book that we may not ever read. Our lives become hectic, and I believe that we often pick up books to read during the cozy season. But why wait so long for this?
In this blog post, I am going to share a unique method that the Lord placed in my heart (once again!) to share with you to get the most of our reading time. Now, this is not only for regular books, but it’s also fantastic when reading a daily devotional, textbooks (if you’re a student), and even study the Word of God at a deeper level. It’s a well-known practice that helps us expand at greater levels.
Let’s Talk About Those Unread Books…
You’re Not Alone
One thing I know for sure is that time with God must be a priority. This means that we have to make a way to spend time with the One Who created us in the first place. No matter how many excuses we make (even if we don’t think they are excuses), and spend time with our Heavenly Father. I had to learn this the hard way.
Everything that I share in this blog is to teach you what I have learned through my own hardships, and the Lord getting on my case to learn the things that matter most. And, what matters most? Him!
Why We Wait For the “Cozy Season”
The seasonal reading mindset can hold us back. We are all looking for ways to implement some type of simplicity, relaxation, and quiet moments in our lives. Oftentimes, we find those in the cozy season. It shouldn’t be this way.
We can create cozy moments any time of the year, but I will be super honest here, we prefer laziness, sluggishness, and unproductivity rather than spending time with God. He has the answer to all our questions and the solution to all our problems. So, why do we have such a hard time making a way to be in His presence?
We can‘t say we don’t have time. We do have the time. We just don’t make a way. Kingdom Timekeepers, that’s a heart problem! This is holding back our blessings. This is withdrawing us from what matters most, and to get to hear God in every way. This is what the enemy wants. But, what do we want?
A Little Nudge from the Lord
Insight & Wisdom Mapping happened when I was going through a “dry” season. Spiritually speaking, a dry season is when you feel far from God. We don’t hear Him. We experience confusion. We experience loneliness and solitude. We go through the desert.
I needed answers to something I already knew was doing, but God was seeing deeper than my eyes could see. This is what we need to understand, Kingdom Timekeepers. We may think we know it all, but we actually don’t. God can enter into a place that nobody else can. It’s the heart.
This method of Insight & Wisdom Mapping was placed on my heart to share with you through this blog and my YouTube channel to help you understand that without God we can do nothing (John 15:5). He made that clear to me. I want to guide you on how to use it and see the potential of this method, and how it’s always talked about in the Academics world, but not deeply in the Christian and book reading world.
What Is Insight Mapping (aka Wisdom Mapping)
Think of It Like a Visual Brainstorm
Have you ever felt so confused before? How did you handle it? Was it frustrating? Do you need a way to organize your thoughts, themes, and gain a revelation of that confusion?
Let me show you a way to perform a brainstorming session by partnering with God to reveal the reason behind that confusion, and get the answer to it.
How to perform a brainstorming session with God? Here are the steps to take to have a successful brainstorming session with God:
Pray before having a brainstorming session: One of the reasons why we fail to listen and hear what God has to say is that we don’t include Him in everything we do. The Word of God clearly says, “In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success” (Proverbs 3:6, TLB). Before doing anything else, make sure you talk to God and include Him in every decision you make. This will make a huge difference.
Read the Bible: To hear and know what God has to say to us, we need to read His Word. Why? His Word is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12, NIV). This means that He can talk to ourselves, in the deepest part of our being, for what we are waiting for. It may not be in a thundering voice, but in a "still small voice" (1 Kings 19:11-13, NKJV). But He can’t talk to us when there’s noise surrounding us.
Start using the Insight & Wisdom Mapping: In the above image, you see a tree. In my personal and quiet brainstorming moments with God, He used the “anatomy of a tree,” to get a point across. However, you can use a sheet of paper and write in the middle of the paper that thing you are confused about. Or, you can write the main concept of what you are trying to find an answer for. For example, you can write “How to pray,” if you are struggling to pray and don’t know what to say.
This is the beginning of discovering so much more of what we already know. For so many years, we depend solely on our own human wisdom. God does not operate in human wisdom. On another occasion, I will teach you how to use this kind of mapping to learn about God’s wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and skills. This will help us understand and see the difference between God’s wisdom and human “wisdom.” Today, I’m teaching you the basics.
Why It Works So Well For Devotionals and Bible Study
uires time. This is not just to organize our thoughts, themes, or ideas. It’s to receive revelation from God to understand what we don’t understand. You will experience so many “aha-moments” through this process and you will expand with purpose.
The beauty of this concept is that it can be used not only to get clarity in our goals, dreams, and decisions, but also to deepen our daily devotionals and private, personal Bible study at home. When we do these things, especially alone, we tend to feel demotivated. It becomes monotonous and many times boring, because we do the same things over and over. In my own process of reading devotionals and Bible study, I stopped reading these for a while, because I wasn't filled enough to even say, “Thank You God.” This is a dangerous place to be because the enemy can use that moment to creep into our mind and place thoughts that don’t belong there.
Romans 12:2 (NIV) says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
What does it mean to renew your mind? It’s reading and meditating on the Word of God day and night.
Joshua 1:8 (NIV) “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Final Thoughts
Reading Is a Daily Invitation to Grow
You don’t need a cozy blanket or wait until Autumn to experience a glorious moment with God. You don’t have to make an altar (unless God tells you so), or have the perfect setup to start conversing with our Heavenly Father. He just wants our heart. He sees what no one else can see and that’s the intentions and motives of the heart (Proverbs 16, NIV).
A lot of time we delay our time with God because we focus on having the perfect setup, and we forget that the only thing God is after is our heart (Read the story of Mary and Martha here). You only have to have a willing heart.
Ready To Try Mapping with Meaning?
Yes, the Insight & Wisdom Mapping is mapping with meaning. You don’t have to stay with one way of mapping - there’s room to grow. Some days, you might just want something super simple: a few branches around a verse or a quote that stood out to you. That’s perfect for a quick devotional or when you’re short on time. Other days, you might feel led to go deeper - maybe you’re studying a full chapter, prepping for a teaching, or just sitting with a big question. That’s when you can build something more layered, more detailed.
You can start with a Scripture, a theme, or even a word that’s been stirring in your spirit. From there, let your thoughts, questions, and insights flow outward. That’s the beauty of Mapping with Meaning - it’s not rigid. It moves with you. You get to shape it around how you learn, how you process, and what your heart needs at that moment. Whether your map looks like a spiral, a web, or a trail, each one becomes a little journey - one that helps you see more clearly and grow more deeply.
And here’s something extra special: these maps don’t just deepen your understanding - they also become powerful tools for content creation. Blog posts, devotionals, social captions, teaching outlines - they all start to flow more naturally when your ideas are already mapped out with meaning and intention.
