Ministry Doesn't Have to Be Big to Be Meaningful

Ministry Doesn't Have to Be Big to Be Meaningful

Ministry Doesn't Have to Be Big to Be Meaningful

Did you know that even in ministry there is tension and pressure? Did you know that some consider ministry a business? Have you ever noticed the perception people have of ministry today?

In this blog post, I am going to share the quiet building of a ministry. The opposite of what we see today. For some, a ministry is flashy, loud, and looks like a concert. As a matter of fact, people call it a concert. How can we call a sacred devotion a concert? We serve a Holy God that deserves our utmost respect and adoration. It is a meaningful and beautiful moment that should be dedicated to the God we serve, not such a spectacle.

For this reason, I want to share the other side of ministry. A humble, quiet, and reverent space that we dedicate solely to Him, and whatever we do should be to honor and glorify Him only.

What We Think Ministry Looks Like

As I mentioned earlier, we have adopted a wrong mindset regarding what the Bible says on ministry.

Hosea 4:6 says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge."

What knowledge? The knowledge of God, who He is and why He created us. The only way to find out about this is by reading the Bible. Unfortunately, we have an epidemic of non-readers. Those who are constantly saying they don't like to read. But those of us that know this is a devil's tactic to withdraw us from immersing in the Word of God. The Bible is like a treasure box, and when we open it, we will find rich treasures in it.

John 10:10 says, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

Jesus came so that we may enjoy life in Him. Enjoying life does not mean going out to parties or doing all sorts of atrocities. Ministry should not only reflect things inside the church, but it also should reflect our lifestyle. Ministry begins at home. Why do I say that? Because whatever we do behind closed doors is how we will treat the house of God.

If we pray, read and study God's Word, that will be reflected in the house of God. It is not taking what the world does, bringing that inside the church, and calling it holy. That is against the Word of God. When we read the Bible and it says tabernacle — for those that don't know, it is referring to an area of the church — yes, the building we tend to visit once a week for most of us. If you already knew this, we may still need to help those who did not. This is an example of what we think ministry is about.

The way we think it is right, but in God's eyes it is not right.

Isaiah 5:20 says, "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil, who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter."

What Ministry Actually Looks Like

It is those quiet moments at home, that part of your home, in your vehicle, that moment that we take a breath and have a conversation with God. It is that time that we pour our hurting and overwhelming heart to God and give it all to Him. It will reflect the way we live. It is not only by our works, because without true, genuine faith in God, these works are dead.

James 2:14-26 says, "What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, depart in peace, be warmed and filled, but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."

It Happens in the Backend

Nobody knows what happens inside a home unless we say something, right?

Matthew 6:6 says, "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

Ministry begins in your silent moments. These are the breathing time to speak to the Lord, closely listen to Him, and receive what He has to say.

For my husband and I, it was the still small voice in our soul that spoke to us regarding the children's ministry. It was that still small voice that burdened my heart for women who are hurting — women in entrepreneurship, business owners, direct sellers, and leaders — and to ask women who want to see themselves as God sees them.

Matthew 11:28 says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

These are some of the moments that we realize we cannot do everything on our own. We ask God at that moment, "What do you want me to do?" This is the open door of your ministry.

The backend does not look pretty and it is not easy. It is filled with tears, trials and tribulations, and a lot of prayer. Do we want blessings? Then this is the space where it all begins.

Do you want to see the hand of God move in your life? It all begins in humility, obedience, and experiences that you cannot fight on your own. You need to solely depend on God.

It Happens in the Unexpected

We will suffer in ministry for the love of the gospel. It may be a health scare, a family emergency, a financial issue, and it is all a test of faith and love for God. If we say we love God, He will test us on that. If we say we will obey Him, He will test us on that. If He says to eliminate some friends, but you delay on that, that is disobedience. He will not be pleased about that. Be prepared to be spiritually reprimanded by the Lord. He will make you face the test again.

It is not the fact that we say these things. It is that we get it done. What happened to Jonah in the Bible? He didn't do what God wanted him to do, so he ran away from his calling. Yet, God met him where he was and brought him back to where he needed to be.

Jonah 1:3 says, "But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord."

Do you honestly believe that we can run away from the Lord? "For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth." No matter where we go, even to the ends of the world, God will meet us there.

How God Uses Ordinary Moments for Extraordinary Impact

There may be times where we feel like blessing someone to find out they are not appreciative. God may not have been in it, and we may have been directed by our own feelings. This is one of the reasons why I suggest we pray first before making any move. This is what I mean about including God in everything we do. Doing this can prevent us from unnecessary headaches.

But when God is in the middle of our daily lives, He will place people in your heart that are truly in need. Just remember this, "I the Lord search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings" (Jeremiah 17:10).

Do not take vengeance. Do not be upset. Bring this matter to the Lord, and He will fight for you.

Those things that you do in silence, and the people you bless, God is taking note. Make sure that you bring the need before the Lord, and if He says yes, be obedient. You will experience fulfillment because you were obedient to God.

Do you want to make an impact? Partner with God.

What This Means to You

Things can shift in your favor if you put God first. When we stop doing exactly how others are doing it, you are not blending in, you are standing out. For instance, if you are attending a church that you know is doing things against the Word of God, but you are still attending, you are blending in. If you say you don't like to read, you are giving in to the tactics of the enemy, you are blending in.

If you truly want to make an impact and do things exactly how it is said in the Bible, rest assured that you will be criticized, mocked, and rejected — but you are pleasing God. This is what pleases God. However, do not get upset, do not think evil, do not talk to others about it. Lay it all to God.

When we trust in God and make Him our priority, our ministry will take shape. Let God take control of the situation. Don't run to people, run to God first.

Ministry means serving God in such a way that it doesn't spread evil, but good. It is that faith that moves mountains. It is the intentions and motives in our hearts. God wants your heart.

Final Words

The ministry does not have to be loud to be powerful. It does not have to be big to be meaningful. And it does not have to look like what everyone else is doing to be right.

What God is looking for is not a performance. He is looking for a heart that is fully surrendered to Him. A heart that says yes before it knows all the details. A heart that shows up in the quiet, in the backend, in the unexpected moments — and trusts God with the outcome.

You may never stand on a stage. You may never have thousands of followers watching your every move.

But if you are praying, reading the Word, obeying His voice, and serving the people He places in front of you — you are in ministry. Right now. Exactly where you are.

Do not despise the quiet season of your ministry. Do not compare it to what you see online or on a platform. God is building something through you that is far greater than anything you could manufacture on your own.

Put Him first. Stay obedient. Run to God before you run to people. And trust that everything done in secret for His glory will be rewarded openly.

God wants your heart. Give it to Him fully — and watch what He does with a ministry that is built on nothing but faith, obedience, and love.

Keep building. Keep it quiet. Keep it Kingdom.
